SARAH BARNHART

BIO

Yoga found Sarah at a very challenging time in her life and it transformed her whole being in ways she did not know were possible. Her greatest teacher and inspiration in life is her son. She may not have found her path had he not arrived to give her direction.

Sarah’s personal and teaching practice evolved over time to feel more authentically referred to as mindful movement. She draws on learnings experienced in the context of practice and weaves the teachings, little by little, into all that she does. Sarah shares her experience of this practice through teaching chill, flowing classes, with a focus on meeting yourself where you are at and moving in the direction of presence both on and off the mat.

Sarah is a student of the Good Body Feel Movement Method and is thrilled and inspired to land in a community dedicated to radical inclusion, decolonizing wellness and serving marginalized and diverse populations. For the first time, being in a studio space and not having to scan the room to see herself represented is a gift for the nervous system and an experience she hopes to share with the wellness community. Sarah completed Prenatal TT, 200 hour YTT at Dig Yoga in Lambertville NJ, Restorative TT, as well as many other workshop style trainings for teachers and extends her deepest gratitude to all of her teachers for their support and guidance.

Teacher Q+A

What is your astrological make-up?

Virgo almost thought and through with a little bit of Leo but I can’t remember where. My good friend @fullmoonmaven filled me in! She’s amazing!

How did you find movement?

I have found movement a few different times in my life. My dad taught me how to do sun salutations when I was young and I used to do them twice a day and then I forgot all about it until I used to get dragged to the YMCA in Hamilton. I hated the gym so we did yoga classes. After moving to Toronto I found classes here and there but never a regular practice. After my baby was born, I found my way back to the Burlington YMCA where I found my teacher Beth Rutty on Monday nights. I would not be a teacher had I not landed in her class at exactly the right time.

How did you find GBF?

Yet another layered story, I’m full of them, Robin and I crossed paths in a few places as we made our way into the community and overlapped teaching in a few places for a short time, but we actually connected in person on Instagram over full moon posts! The first time we hung out we chatted about the idea of Ritual Island and a studio space and I was so intrigued and inspired. We co-taught a class way back then and I popped into many of the great location classes in the space and time between RI and GBF. I am now thrilled to be a student of the GBFMM in this beautiful space.

What inspires you to move?

I am inspired to move by the opportunity it gives me to be alone in community. As an outgoing introvert I recharge on my own but I crave connection so studio mindful movement is where it is at for me. Movement practice slows the chatter in my mind and allows me to diffuse anxiety and regroup so I can show up in my life in stronger, more present and more complete ways.

How do you find your own good body feel?

Showing up to move in community. Music. Pondering class ideas while making playlists. Wanders with my mini.

Mantras?

Currently “I will be ok here”

How would you describe your approach to movement?

Move a little. Breathe a lot. Take time to pause, breathe, proceed. Working to remind myself that what I know to be true in practice is also true in life.

If you could share anything to your 10 yr old self, what would it be?

Just be who you are. Unapologetically, beautifully, completely YOU! You are beautiful and capable of great things and you are enough.

How is your future self proud of you in this present moment?

Woah! I’m still here. Despite it all. And I’m stepping more fully into the person I’d remind my 10 yr old self I could be!
